Episode One – Frank Traynor

Frank Traynor began his seagoing career at the age of 15 aboard the Asgard, the famous yacht once owned   by Erskine Childers, built by Colin Archer in Norway and which we all heard about in our school history books when she was involved in the Howth gun running of 1914.

In 1972 he went to sea professionally first with Irish Shipping and latterly with Arklow Shipping with eight years as first mate and skipper of Asgard II in between. He speaks with passion and knowledge about the sea and his life under sail and aboard big ships travelling the globe and the value of sail training to young people.
